Organic Foods Courtney Rathmann HLTH 232 10/1/2017 Hearing the term organic foods, we think what are those and how do they compare to conventional foods? Organic foods and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. And animals that produce organic meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones. Conventional foods are the total opposite of organic foods. These foods contain the use of chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides, chemical weed killers, use of genetically modified organisms which can deliver consistent crops, and the restriction of only one or two crops†¦show more content†¦They feel that we have more options available to us rather than 5 years ago. We can choose to make smarter choices with the conventional foods. Lots of the conventional foods we eat are genetically modified. And these foods are known to be as GMO’s. Within these conventional foods there is no nu tritional value with the pesticides that are used to help grow and fertilize these foods. Some pros to these foods are that they control the occurrence of certain diseases. Keyword certain, not all, or many! Can help alter allergies due to the DNA in foods being altered. These foods grow way faster, which means greater productivity and more food. Financial gain can occur as well as helping people fight poverty. Can also help people who lack nutrients, these foods contain more minerals and vitamins. And they have an increased shelf life, which reduces the rotten foods rate on shelves. Some cons include harmful effects on the human body, leading to development of diseases that are immune to antibiotics. Increases a higher chance of Americans developing cancer. Very unnatural way of producing foods, increased health hazard with allergens, and the transfer of antibiotic resistance markers and unknown effects. Also, leads to a potential environmental impact (cross pollination). And this may be something that’s good for right now, but it might not be good for consumption in the long run. As Judith Jarvis Thomson points out, anti-abortionists rely on the premise that foetus’ are persons, and therefore are morally equivalent to human beings.1 Conversely, pro-choice advocates typically come from the premise that, as Mary Anne Warren suggests â€Å"foetuses are neither persons nor members of the moral community.† The key ethical schism, is around the issue of whether the foetus constitutes a person. People have developed varied counter measures called defense mechanisms in an attempt to confront their issues. Many of the theories behind defense mechanisms commenced with the work of Sigmund Freud. Freud believed that a conflict existed between the id, ego and the superego. This accounted for the anxieties within human existence. Freud stated that individuals use these mechanisms subconsciously, and that it is normal and acceptable to do so. On a second level, one could subscribe to the belief that, in fact, Gallimard was homosexual, and used his defense mechanisms to cloak this reality. He could have created Song as a quasi fantasy. The ideal of a woman in a body of a man. He would not have to consider the ideal of himself being homosexual while at the same time having been allowed to be one. Many parallels can be drawn between the defense mechanisms of each of these characters. Both are trying to hide an undesirable characteristic. Both create a world for themselves that is unlike reality. Song becomes the feminine character whom is not what as she appears. She is Gallimard fantasy of what a woman should be. Each of the characters seems to have differing motives for their defense mechanisms. Parry has memories. These memories haunt and torment him. He wants to hide these memories. Yet, when one cannot decipher realities from fantasy the mechanism become counter productive. In Gallimards case he passes on secrets to his love. Only to learn of her deceit at his fall. The fantasy is the rationale behind the delving of the secrets. The fantasy leads to his jailing. While the Fisher King concludes with the typical Hollywood ending, Parrys mechanisms still cause danger to himself throughout the movie. She has changed her mind again, and is also being disloyal to her mothers wishes by instructing the Nurse to ask his name.
